Finance Committee (Jonathan Webster)
-
• The Finance Committee has begun receiving items and requests for the 2008 budget.
Property Committee
-
• Peter Fyfe announced that there was a hole in the balcony bottom of the tower. Peter said that the church received an anonymous donation to cover the repair of the hole.
-
• Peter further stated that there was a leak in the roof next to the piano. Peter does not know what it is and he has asked for authorization to have an expert come in and search out the problem.
-
• Peter addressed the Friedrichs proposal. For the repair of the surface of the church. Peter stated that the proposal was an incremental (four-year) repair cycle. Brian asked that the proposal be circulated during the July meeting.
-
• Molly Brown and Sarah Lanford invited Peter (a member of the Property Committee) to the Kitchen Committee meeting. Peter turned the discussion over to Sarah Lanford.
-
• Sarah stated that Molly began the Kitchen committee in 2004. In 2005 the committee consulted with Eastern Sales from Roanoke and requested a renovation plan. Sarah distributed a preliminary copy of the plans. She noted that the plans called for us to retain the stove which has been updated. We will install a dishwasher and freezer. In addition the plans call for the construction of an island in the center. The committee visited churches in Roanoke and Vinton to look at their work. Eastern Sales did the installation of the kitchen in the Phoebe Needles in Callaway. Sarah noted that the plans were two years old and we would need an up to date quote.
-
• Cindy questioned the infra structure of the church hall (in particular hot water, electrical and plumbing).
-
• The amount estimated in 2005 was $80,000.
-
• Molly and Sarah invited vestry members to inspect the kitchen following the meeting.
-
• Peter noted that we should consider the air conditioning of the Parish Hall. He addressed that it would require electrical and duct work. Peter noted that the committee had received a quote two years ago of $17,000 for the installation of air conditioning. Brian noted that we ask a commercial building inspector come in and do a complete inspection of the building.
-
• Brian noted that we need to ascertain the overall condition of the building before proceeding with any further renovation. Brian also remarked that that Junior Warden Bob Glidden was absent for the meeting. The role of the junior warden is to oversee the overall condition of the church. Brian noted that Bob brings a skill set in construction management in his past roles as a college president and administrator. Brian noted that Bob is eager to meet with the committees. He would then prioritize the improvements and compile recommendations to move forward with the project.
Wardens’ Report
-
• Columbarium Task Force will submit plans next month
-
• Brian asked Kay to speak about the upcoming visit of the Rev. Tom Crittenden and his family. Kay said that on Saturday, he will accompany the youth on their trip to Goshen. On Sunday, he and the family will attend both the 8:00 and the 10:30 services. The Rev. Crittenden will make brief remarks but will not be the celebrant. At 6:00 in the church court yard, there will be a parish wide celebration featuring a covered dish reception and blue grass music.
-
• The Rev. Crittenden’s first day will be August 5. He is anxious to meet with the parishioners at Kendal. He will also attend the meetings of ECW, Worship and Finance committees. He will return to Florida and will accompany his family on the 12th of August.
-
• Brian stated that we should spend a good amount of time during the July meeting dealing with the transition of the Rev. Crittenden into the Parish.
-
• Brian announced that in September, his wife Jayne has accepted a position as Associate Vice President and Dean of Development for the School of the Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University. Brian will remain at the Marshall Foundation and will telecommute with the Foundation. He stated that he has consulted with the Junior Warden and the Rev. Crittenden and will serve out his term.
Woody Sadler closed the meeting with a prayer.
Meeting adjourned at 5:55 PM.
