Administration Committee

As Chair of the committee, Brian Shaw reported on the permanent search process. On December 21 Melissa Cox and Brian Shaw went to Roanoke to meet with Bishop Powell and Gene Anderson, Diocesan Deployment Officer. Gene Anderson will meet with the Vestry at the January 16 meeting to discuss the search process.

Brian reported that there were two versions recommended by the diocese.

Short Version: The bishop gives the Vestry five approved candidates. The Vestry serves as the Search Committee, interviews the candidates and makes the selection.

Long Version: A Search Committee is formed.  After receiving names from many sources, the committee vets candidates before giving the names of 2-4 choices to the Vestry which then makes the selection of Rector.

Brian then gave an update of the Interim Rector search. He reported that the diocese indicated that there was stiff competition for good interims; recently, the tenure for rectors nationwide has shrunk from 15 years to five or six years. Therefore interim priests are in demand and the pool is often small.

He and Melissa have spoken to two candidates. One, from Clemson, SC withdrew and accepted a position in Tallahassee, FL. They spoke with a second candidate from Scott’s Valley, CA. The Rev. Barry Miller will visit RE Lee for 2 days, January 5-6.  Brian cited the website of his current interim parish: www.stphilip-sv.org. He is 67, a resident of Connecticut. In addition, he is a Management Consultant. His wife, Nancy, is also ordained and though currently an interim, she has worked in clergy deployment at the National Church Headquarters and in campus ministry at Yale.

While in town he will meet with the staff, the Administration/Personnel Committee and other parish leaders.

Jerry Nay asked that Brian e-mail The Rev. Mr. Miller’s resume and that he be available on Friday for an informal drop-in gathering with any interested members of the vestry. It was agreed that 11:30 would be a good time.

The Administration and Personnel Committee will meet the next week and will make a recommendation at the January 16 meeting.

Melissa announced that there will be a commissioning of new vestry members during the 10:30 service on January 15 followed by a potluck brunch at her home.

Melissa offered a prayer and the meeting was adjourned at 5:45
