RE Lee Memorial Episcopal Church

December 6, 2006

Opening:
Melissa Cox called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm.

Worship:
Daniel Brinson opened the meeting with a hymn. Brian Shaw led the worship.

Minutes:
Melissa Cox asked for approval of the minutes from the November meeting. The motion to accept was approved without dissent.

·         Mo Littlefield thanked Gerry Locher for serving as head of the Property Committee. 

·         Daniel announced that the Music Scholarships that he has requested for the past two years have been very successful and have added to the level of participation in the College and Youth ministries.

·         During the 5:00 service we have had Parishioners and students playing instruments and this will continue. He said that the moving of the piano has enhanced this participation.

Yellow Brick Road
Paula Cushman passed around pictures of the construction of the house for Yellow Brick Road. Construction is moving along quite quickly at the Vo-Tech Center. YBR has received a matching challenge grant of $50,000. She reported that the attachment to the existing house should happen by May of 2007.

Endowments and Investments Committee
Bob Glidden circulated a report on our investments and distribution of proceeds.
We have received two Bequests and a Gift. Col. George Brooke, Jr. After consultation, it has been decided that it will be used for upkeep of the church property.
Bob moved that the Brooke Request be put into the Property Endowment.
The second was a gift of $100 in memory of Mary L. Boyd by Rebecca and Bill Connelly.
Bob moved that this gift be put into the Vestry Discretionary Fund.
The third is a bequest from the estate of Winter Roysten.

Bob moved that the Vestry use up to $100,000 for the matching Grant for Yellow Brick Road. The remainder will go into the Church’s Mission Endowment Fund.
The motions were seconded and passed without dissent or abstention.

Finance Committee
Jonathan Webster circulated a flow chart outlining processing procedure for Memorial Contributions and Gifts in Honor.

Jonathan reported for the Vestry’s information that Jerry Nay had requested funds for Operation Golden Rule. The Committee has yet to finalize the budget pending on the completion of the every member canvas.

Search Committee
Jonathan Webster discussed the question of the number of finalists that the Committee submits to the Vestry. After discussion:
It was moved and seconded that the charge indicates that the committee submits at least two, preferably three candidates.
Jonathan will rephrase the charge and will circulate it to the Vestry by e-mail.
The motion was passed without dissent or abstention.
Brian Shaw reminded the Vestry (sitting as well as new members) that we will have a ½ day meeting/retreat to discuss the search and the coming 2007 year with the Reverend Gene Anderson. Brian will discuss dates with the Rev. Anderson on his schedule for February and will circulate that information by e-mail.

Wardens’ Report
Melissa read a letter that she had received from Kay Horner thanking us for the additional remuneration included in her November pay check.
There will be a Vestry Commissioning January 7 at the 10:30 service for sitting and new Vestry members.
Monday, January 15 will be the next Vestry Meeting. At the meeting there will be elections for Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Treasurer and Clerk. A nominating committee is being formed.
Christmas Worship supply Clergy have been arranged for.
The 8:00 Am Services will continue to be covered by the Reverend Tom Litzenburg and the Wednesday noon service will be covered by the Reverend John Fergerson.  
The Reverend Bob Copenhaver will be the supply Clergy for the 10:30 and 5:00 services beginning on January 7and will continue to serve us until our new Rector is here.
Melissa noted that this year’s Bazaar was quite successful.
Daniel took a large group over to the Boys’ Home. Daniel did this on his own volition and he deserves credit and thanks.
Jerry Nay added that Meg Mason had a wonderful Angel Tree this year. The Angels were gone at the end of the morning of the meeting.

Administration and Personnel Committee
Brian noted that next year is Daniel’s fifth year at RE Lee. Daniel requested an assessment of his work here. He wants to have a group of parishioners to oversee the music committee.  Brian met with Daniel and Doug Cumming, chair of the Worship Committee and the agreed to form a small music advisory group.
Brian noted that Daniel is not paid for a full work week. Brian noted on behalf of the Committee that he intends to propose for the 2008 budget that we move Daniel up to Full Time status.

Brian made a motion to commend Melissa.
The Motion was moved and seconded without dissension or abstention.

Bob Glidden thanked the Vestry members who are leaving the Vestry following their term of service.

Brian Shaw gave the closing prayer.
